The summer has gone by quickly. Too quickly. Or too slowly depending on the heat index.
Painting was on a hiatus for a while, but now I am going again, having just finished a new experiment in exploring just painting whatever came into my head, reaching into a place to find an answer, and perhaps another question. I was pleasantly surprised as I was juried into the Artel Gallery Show, "The Other Side of the Coin" with the Refugee and the Lament charcoals. A social statement and an environmental statement! The Reception was so much fun, in part because I was invited to an authentic Italian Restaurant by an friend who is married to an artist that I have respect greatly for some time, friends who attend our church, and then we visited the gallery together. Other friends that I haven't seen for a long time came to the Reception and I saw a couple of other old friends. If you ever get a chance to google, or see in person, the work of Kreg Yingst, I high recommend you do so. And a great thanks to Artel, a class act Gallery! Next to debut is a large painting of a Lion, an Eagle, and a Raven. A new spin-off on the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe? No, I hope this is a work that will stand on its own with uniqueness. Until next time. The first four months of 2011 have seen many changes, both in the world and in my life, in many ways.
We moved to a new gallery location in April. It is spacious and elegant and has the room for classes, of which will kick off in May. You can go to the Blue Morning Gallery website, http://bluemorninggallery.com for a line-up of the classes. We hope you will join us in one or more. I have been painting palms and a swamp foliage painting in acrylic and am beginning another monkey charcoal painting. I call my charcoals drawins AND paintings, as the medium is often rubbed and manipulated and ends up flowing like paint across the paper. I am in a Featured Artist Show for the month of May, titled "Along the Roadway" with three other artists. You are invited to come to 21 Palafox street anytime after April 30 to view the show and our new Gallery. You are also invited to our picnic themed Reception on May 6th at 5:00pm to 8:pm. Bring your family and friends and enjoy some good snacks and good art. I think you will find my pieces quite different - in fact - for blog readers, here is a hint: Along the Roadway - Around the World! Gallery night is also coming up May 20th, and you can find me at the Blue Morning Gallery or Artel Gallery with the Pen Women that evening. Stop in and say hello! |
