![]() Is everyone back in school - settled into fall routines? My routines are completely "down the tubes," as they say. Back surgery went well, once I finally got there, waylaid by anemia a couple of times, needing treatment. So, as I journaled, much of what was going on in my life, was reflected in my journal. This photo of a journal page is called "Metamorphosis" More detail resides on the 20 Page Journal tab of this website. Trying to use pain, lowered functioning, loss, though temporary, of abilities - as a learning tool, and being boldly wise about it while often being a pain because of some whining, somehow we have made it through. Friends, family, a new baby girl (granddaughter), kind thoughts, prayers from many I'll probably never know about, held me together. We went through a hurricane though we were only on the edges, a major tropical storm before that, trusting faith to keep us all firm and standing. Literally. Now just need to gain my strength back. Another Journal, this one for the Brooklyn Arts Project is underway - I think I will title it "Uncommon Chickens" - - more to come as I work on it, and a piece I must paint/charcoal of a young woman from the Crow Tribe, then getting art ready for Christmas displays are in the near future. It will never be the same again. Have you ever crossed those kind of bridges? Perhaps the Uncommon Chickens Journal will reflect a come back, we'll see. We often use the word "chicken" especially when young to express taunting of someone who is in fear, or too wise to do something foolish. I hope this Journal will be a story of uncommon chickens who show courage, the ability to have fun and try the possible and impossible, be themselves, no matter what other chickens think, and who aren't afraid to be an uncommon chicken Have a great fall everyone.

The summer has gone by quickly. Too quickly. Or too slowly depending on the heat index.
Painting was on a hiatus for a while, but now I am going again, having just finished a new experiment in exploring just painting whatever came into my head, reaching into a place to find an answer, and perhaps another question. I was pleasantly surprised as I was juried into the Artel Gallery Show, "The Other Side of the Coin" with the Refugee and the Lament charcoals. A social statement and an environmental statement! The Reception was so much fun, in part because I was invited to an authentic Italian Restaurant by an friend who is married to an artist that I have respect greatly for some time, friends who attend our church, and then we visited the gallery together. Other friends that I haven't seen for a long time came to the Reception and I saw a couple of other old friends. If you ever get a chance to google, or see in person, the work of Kreg Yingst, I high recommend you do so. And a great thanks to Artel, a class act Gallery! Next to debut is a large painting of a Lion, an Eagle, and a Raven. A new spin-off on the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe? No, I hope this is a work that will stand on its own with uniqueness. Until next time. Moving into a new year and new adventures in art!
Art and Soul, a new members' art show at the Blue Morning Gallery will be highlighted with a members' reception on January 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. I'm looking forward to meeting new and old friends and a year of intensified painting and art production. One of the highlights of the last month in 2010 was an art event for the children in our neighborhood, (with the assistance of my youngest grandson) many of whom are children of servicemen. Their finished art was amazing and we had a great time. One of my goals for the coming year is to make a statement, "Paint the Wold with Hope and Healing." Much can be said for this statement - considering the wars, the degradation of our environment and current economic status around most of the world, and increasing violence within humanity. Paint the World's goal is to bring attention to beautiful Creation and ways to fulfill our passion to bring about Hope and Healing in the World. I'm excited about the adventures and possibilities that will open as we walk down the road of Hope and Healing in 2011! |
